Prof. Umberto Fratino He has been the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Bari since 1 October 2025. A full professor of Hydraulic Structures, he has long been a point of reference in the field of civil and environmental engineering. He graduated with honors in Civil Engineering and holds a PhD in Hydraulic Engineering. He has carried out research and scientific collaboration activities at both national and international level, with over 280 publications and evaluation assignments for the European Commission.

Throughout his career, he has held strategic roles within the University, including Director of the DICATECh Department and member of the Academic Senate. He was also President of the Order of Engineers of the Province of Bari, demonstrating a strong commitment to dialogue between the academic, professional, and institutional worlds.

Elected Rector in the first round, with broad support from the university community, he began his term with the aim of strengthening the role of the Polytechnic as a central actor in the development of the local area, in advanced technical education, and in applied research.

Among his priorities are: the completion of projects related to the PNRR, the improvement of services and infrastructure, the enhancement of the university community, and the strengthening of the University's international dimension. His approach is based on participatory governance, attentive to listening, dialogue, and innovation, in the belief that only a cohesive and competent community can face the challenges of the present and build a sustainable future.
