The The Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has issued the PRIN 2026 HYBRID Call, within the framework of the Program of Projects of National Research Interest (PRIN), with the aim of strengthening the national research system and promoting advanced forms of integration among disciplines, expertise, and scientific approaches.
The call is part of the 2026–2028 Three-Year Research Plan and is intended to fund high-quality basic research projects, characterized by a strong multidisciplinary content and a clear vocation for thehybridization of knowledge. In particular, PRIN 2026 Hybrid supports structured collaboration among humanistic, social, scientific, and technological fields, enhancing the contribution of new technologies to knowledge production and the analysis of complex phenomena.
The program is addressed to universities, public research bodies, and AFAM institutions, which are called upon to submit three-year projects of such scale and complexity as to require the cooperation of multiple research units belonging to different institutions. Proposals must fall within one of the five strategic thematic lines identified by the call:
- quantum technologies;
- high-performance computing (HPC);
- artificial intelligence;
- cybersecurity;
- technologies and innovative pathways in the healthcare sector.
The total financial allocation of PRIN 2026 Hybrid amounts to 59 million euros, of which 56.64 million are directly allocated to project funding, with a contribution ranging from 1.2 to 1.7 million euros for each project. A share of the resources is reserved for projects submitted by principal investigators under 40, in order to support generational renewal and the enhancement of young researchers.
The PRIN 2026 Hybrid Call therefore represents a strategic instrument to support frontier research, foster cross-fertilization among fields of knowledge, and strengthen the role of the Italian research system in the European and international context, in line with the priorities of the European Union and with the country's competitiveness and development objectives.
Applications for participation must be submitted exclusively online (at the following link: https://prin.mur.gov.it/), from 3:00 PM on 20 April 2026 to 3:00 PM on 4 June 2026. Project proposals must be written in English.
