GE Avio is a leading company in the design, production, and maintenance of components and systems for civil and military aviation, with excellence recognized within General Electric in the field of mechanical transmissions, low-pressure turbines, combustors, control systems, additive manufacturing, and repair technologies.
As part of a long-term agreement between GE AVIO and the Polytechnic University of Bari, the Repair Development Centre (RDC) was established to develop innovative technologies for the repair of aeronautical components and to transfer research results to real components in GE AVIO plants.
The main focuses are the research and development of advanced repair systems based on additive manufacturing techniques capable of ensuring the high quality standards required for aeronautical applications.
The focus is on repair techniques based on laser deposition and cold spray using dedicated experimental equipment available in the RDC laboratory.
Research and experimentation are based on components with complex geometry made from materials that are difficult to repair using traditional techniques, such as nickel- or cobalt-based superalloys, light alloys, and intermetallic materials.
