In April 2020, the Polytechnic University of Bari and Terna SpA, the Italian group responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance activities of the network, signed an agreement for research, technological development, and innovation of the national electricity infrastructure.
The agreement provides for the opening of an Innovation Hub, that is, an integrated multidisciplinary laboratory within the Polytechnic, in the Campus area, where a mixed team of university researchers and company experts will work together on scientific projects of common interest.
The projects, based on the economic, social, and productive needs of the local area, will be aimed at technological innovation for the management and security of the national electrical system. In particular, they will address the topics of real-time data collection and analysis; advanced services for electrical infrastructure; cybersecurity; digital technologies; 3D printing and additive manufacturing.
