The Polytechnic University of Bari was established by Law No. 245 of August 7, 1990. It is the youngest of the three Italian Polytechnics.
Born thanks to the prestige of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bari, established in the academic year 1947-1948, to which the Faculties of Architecture (1989) and Engineering of Taranto (1991) were added, the Polytechnic University of Bari has become a technical university of excellence.
Following Law 240/2010, the organization is structured as follows 5 departments:
- Department of Electrical and Information Engineering
- Department of Mechanics, Mathematics and Management
- Interuniversity Department of Physics Michelangelo Merlin
- Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture Sciences
- Department of Civil, Environmental, Territorial, Building and Chemical Engineering
