AREE DI RICERCA PRINCIPALI
Sistemi di automazione e controllo
Questa attività è iniziata nel 1983 durante il lavoro di ricerca presso il laboratorio di automazione e controllo. Vengono affrontati diversi problemi di controllo e modellazione relativi a sistemi di produzione, sistemi di veicoli guidati, sistemi di stoccaggio e recupero automatizzati, reti ferroviarie, reti di traffico.

Reti di Petri
Le reti di Petri sono il quadro principale utilizzato dal prof. Fanti per problemi di controllo e modellazione. Questo tema di ricerca è stato sviluppato in collaborazione con altri ricercatori italiani e mondiali.

Ricerca operativa e scienze gestionali
Nel corso degli ultimi 15 anni sono stati impiegati strumenti di ricerca operativa e sistemi di supporto decisionale per la gestione di sistemi reali: sistemi logistici, catene di fornitura, sistemi di trasporto intermodale, sistemi di trasporto intelligenti.

Consenso e ottimizzazione distribuita
Questa nuova area di ricerca è iniziata nel 2010, due studenti di dottorato hanno lavorato su questi argomenti.

PUBLICATIONS
270 papers: 83 journal papers di cui 28 su IEEE Transactions Journals, 4 papers su Automatica, 8 papers su alter riviste IFAC, i rimanenti lavori in articoli rilevanti nelle principali aree di sistemi ad eventi discreti, logistica e sistemi di produzione.

È co-autrice di 10 capitoli di libri e 174 lavori presentati a conferenze internazionali.
Maria Pia Fanti è autrice di un libro per scopi didattici in italiano e curatore di un libro.

MAIN RESEARCH AREAS
Automation and control systems
This activity started in 1983 during the research work at the Laboratory of Automation and control. Different problems of control and modeling related to manufacturing systems, guided vehicle systems, automated storage and retrieval systems, railway networks, traffic networks are addressed.

Petri nets
Petri nets are the main framework used by prof. Fanti for control and modeling issues. This research theme has been developed in collaboration with other Italian and worldwide researchers.

Operational research and management science
During the last 15 years operational research tools and decision support systems are employed to manage real systems: logistic systems, supply chains, intermodal transportation systems, intelligent transportation systems.

Consensus and distributed optimization
This new research area started in 2010, two phd students worked in this topics.

PUBLICATIONS
270 papers: 83 journal papers including 28 on IEEE Transactions Journals, 4 papers on Automatica, 8 papers on other IFAC journals, and the remaining papers in papers relevant in the main areas of discrete event systems, logistics and production systems.
She is co-author of 10 book chapters and 174 papers presented at international conferences.
Maria Pia Fanti is author of a book for teaching purpose in Italian and editor of one book.
