Gennaro Boggia si è laureato con lode in Ingegneria Elettronica nel luglio 1997 presso il Politecnico di Bari. Sempre presso lo stesso ateneo ha ottenuto nel marzo 2001 il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Ingegneria Elettronica.
Da settembre 2002 lavora presso il Dip. di Ing. Elettrica e dell’Informazione (DEI) del Politecnico di Bari, dove è attualmente Professore Associato (SSD ING-INF/03 – Telecomunicazioni).
Nel periodo maggio-dicembre 1999 è stato ricercatore visiting presso il centro “TILab”, Telecomitalia Lab (in passato CSELT) dove è stato coinvolto nello studio della rete di core delle successive release dell’UMTS. Nel 2007 è stato ricercatore visiting presso il centro FTW (Vienna) dove è stato coinvolto in attività sul monitoraggio attivo e passivo del traffico in reti 3G.
Durante la sua attività, ha ottenuto i seguenti premi/riconoscimenti: Best paper Award, IEEE ICUMT Conf., 2015; Premio AICA (Associazione Italiana per l’informatica e il Calcolo Automatico) 2014 con menzione speciale per l’innovazione e l’originalità della tesi di dottorato “Advanced services and performance assessment in Information Centric Networks” della dottoranda Ilaria Cianci con Tutor Gennaro Boggia; articolo più visualizzato nel 2013 sull’EURASIP Journal onWireless Commun. and Networking; Best Paper Award “Francesco Carassa” nellariunione annuale GTTI 2012; promozione al grado di IEEE Senior Member nel 2009; Best paper Award all’IEEE VTC Fall Conf., 2004.
L’attività di ricerca del Prof. Boggia è iniziata nel 1997 ed è proseguita, senza interruzioni, sino ad ora nell’ambito di diversi progetti di ricerca che hanno coinvolto il DEI e altre istituzioni pubbliche e private, nazionale e internazionali. In particolare, la ricerca coinvolge il suo gruppo di ricerca presso il laboratorio di Telematica del DEI (http://telematics.poliba.it). Le sue aree di interesse scientifico sono relative a Wireless Networking, Cellular Communication, Internet of Things (IoT), Network Security, Security in Iot, Information Centric Networking (ICN), Protocol stacks for industrial applications, Internet measurements, Network Performance Evaluation. I risultati della ricerca sono testimoniati da più di 150 pubblicazioni (tra cui 55 articoli su riviste internazionali, 4 capitoli in libri, più di 90 articoli pubblicati in atti di conferenze internazionali), la maggior parte delle quali apparse in contesti di indubbio valore. L’impatto della ricerca è testimoniato dal numero di citazioni ricevute (circa 4100 secondo Google Scholar e circa 2300 secondo Scopus) e dall’indice di Hirsch (28 secondo Google Scholar e 22 secondo Scopus).
Ha o ha avuto responsabilità nei seguenti progetti di ricerca:

Gennaro Boggia received, with honors, the Dr. Eng. Degree in Electronics Engineering in July 1997 from the “Politecnico di Bari’’, Italy. In March 2001, he received the Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from the “Politecnico di Bari’’, Italy (curriculum Telecommunications).
Since September 2002, he has been with the Dept. of Electrical and Information Engineering (DEI) at the “Politecnico di Bari”', Italy, where he is currently Assistant Professor.
From May 1999 to Dec. 1999, he was visiting researcher at the “TILab”, TelecomItalia Lab (formerly CSELT), Turin, Italy, where he was involved in the study of the Core Network for the next releases of UMTS. From Nov. to Dec. 2007, he was visiting researcher at FTW (Vienna, Austria), where he was involved in activities on passive and active traffic monitoring in 3G networks.
During his activity, he got the following awards: Best paper Award at IEEE ICUMT Conf., 2015; AICA 2014 Honorable mention for innovation and originality to the PhD. thesis “Advanced services and performance assessment in Information Centric Networks”; Ph.D. Student: Ilaria CIANCI; Highly accesses paper in 2013 in the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Commun. and Networking; Best Paper Award “Francesco Carassa” at the Italian GTTI 2012 annual meeting; Elevation to the grade of IEEE Senior Member in 2009; Best paper Award at IEEE VTC Fall Conf., 2004.
Research activities of Prof. Boggia began in 1997 and proceeded, till now, without any interruptions. They were carried out in the framework of several research projects involving the Dept. of Electrical and Information engineering (DEI) of “Politecnico di Bari” and other National and International Public and Private Research Institutes which he is cooperating to. In particular, these activities involved also his Research Group at “Telematics Lab” (http://telematics.poliba.it). His research interests span the fields of Wireless Networking, Cellular Communication, Internet of Things (IoT), Network Security, Security in Iot, Information Centric Networking (ICN), Protocol stacks for industrial applications, Internet measurements, Network Performance Evaluation. Research outcomes include more than 150 publications (among them 55 international journal papers, 4 book chapters, more than 90 articles in proceedings of international conferences and workshops), most of them appeared in venues of great renown, and contributions to IETF and IRTF standardization groups. The impact of the research activities is testified by the number of citations (about 4100 according to Google Scholar and about 2300 according to Scopus) and the h-index (28 according to Google Scholar and 22 according to Scopus).
