Ricerca Scientifica

La ricerca si svolge presso il Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Ingegneria Civile e dell'Architettura del Politecnico di Bari in collaborazione con diversi ricercatori di Università straniere:
• Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics- Cornell University, USA;
• Levich Institute and Department of Physics of City College New York, USA;
• Department of Physics- University of Rennes, Francia;
• Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT- Kanpur, India;
• Department of Mechanical Engineering, Milwaukee School of Engineering, USA;

L’interesse è rivolto allo studio di materiali granulari attraverso modelli analitici e numerici. In particolare si studia il materiale sia in regime deformativo di pre- collasso che nella fase in cui esso si comporta come un “fluido”. Nel primo caso si cerca di capire quali siano i fenomeni meccanici che producono instabilità con la formazione di un fenomeno classico che è quello delle bande di scorrimento.
Inoltre ci si occupa di reologia di sospensioni dense e del loro comportamento non Newtoniano.
