The main objective of the project is to introduce sustainable technologies and processes to manage wastewater disposal, with the ultimate aim of reducing marine pollution caused by effluents derived from water treatment, and improving the quality of sewerage treatment plants.
More precisely, the project aims to prevent marine pollution and improve the quality of effluents. By doing so, recycled water will be used in other sectors, in full compliance with European regulations. Two pilot actions will be carried out in the two Municipalities involved in the project, Gallipoli in the Puglia Region and Patras in the Western Greece Region. Both Municipalities rely on tourism and marine activities as their main economic drivers; for this reason, they both decided to invest in the quality of their marine environments.
