Purpose/Description of Activities: GAP s.r.l. is a spin-off of the Polytechnic University of Bari whose mission is to develop innovative products, processes and services with a high scientific or technological content in fields such as satellite remote sensing, stereo vision and biomedical applications, as well as related hardware and software technologies. These activities are based on research findings and on the expertise gained over more than twenty years of activity by the Remote Sensing Group of the Interdepartmental Department of Physics in Bari, in the fields of image processing and satellite Earth Observation, in close collaboration with CNR-ISSIA, the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation Studies in Bari. GAP s.r.l.’s partners include the Polytechnic University of Bari itself, Planetek Italia s.r.l., SITAEL S.p.A., and a number of professionals, including faculty members of the Polytechnic University of Bari and the University of Bari, CNR researchers and engineers. Over the last twenty years, the following expertise has been acquired through research projects funded by the European Community and national and international space agencies (ASI, ESA, NASA): Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data processing; development of a multitemporal interferometric processing chain (SPINUA © - Stable Points Identification in Non Urbanized Areas) to identify and monitor ground instability (subsidence, landslides, earthquakes); analysis of remotely sensed VIS/NIR data acquired by satellite platforms to measure chemical and biophysical parameters for coastal water quality; processing of meteorological and climatological data; high spatial and temporal resolution weather forecasting services; development of signal and image processing algorithms using compiled or scripting programming languages (MATLAB, SCILAB, IDL, C, C++), as well as Assembly; IT solutions for parallel and grid-computing architectures. Building on this scientific background, GAP aims to provide products and services with a high degree of innovation and scientific/technological content in the field of remote sensing and related HW/SW technologies: production, marketing and customer service; feasibility studies, design, development and prototyping of innovative procedures for digital signal processing (DSP), particularly for satellite remote sensing data; training activities for anyone wishing to explore remote sensing technologies; research and development to ensure that our know-how is continually updated in our areas of specific interest. The main areas of expertise of our spin-off are: Satellite Radar Remote Sensing; satellite remote sensing in the VIS/NIR; RPAS technologies for surveying and monitoring territory; meteorological services; stereo vision and 3D tracking; biomedical applications.
