The first day as Rector

The note. Umberto Fratino writes to the Poliba community at the beginning of his 2025-2031 term

1 October 2025

At the beginning of his 2025-2031 term, the new 2025-26 academic year and his first day as Rector, Umberto Fratino he wished to greet the Politecnico community with a note sent to faculty, doctoral researchers, students; research fellows, technical-administrative-library staff.

“Poliba Chronicle” publishes the text sent by the newly appointed Rector this morning.

“With great emotion and a sense of responsibility, I address you at the beginning of my term as Rector of the Politecnico di Bari. First of all, I would like to thank the entire Academic Community for the trust placed in me. It is a great honor for me to lead our University, an institution that I know, love, and that is deeply part of my personal and professional journey. I approach this role with enthusiasm and with an awareness of the responsibilities it entails. But above all, with the desire to build together: by listening, engaging in dialogue, valuing what already works, and working, with trust, on what can be improved. I will seek to carry out my role with dedication, empathy, and a spirit of service, fully aware of how rich the Politecnico is in expertise, energy, ideas, and above all extraordinary people. Only through the active participation of everyone: faculty, technical-administrative staff, researchers, and students, will we be able to successfully face the challenges ahead. Our Politecnico is a place of knowledge, innovation, and human relationships: it is from these values that I wish to begin in order to build, together, a solid present and an ambitious future. I am convinced that, with unity and an open, collaborative spirit, we will be able to continue growing our University, making it increasingly inclusive, international, and capable of facing the challenges that the present places before us. In thanking Francesco (Cupertino) for the work carried out, I take this opportunity to renew my willingness to engage in dialogue and collaboration. The Rectorate will be open, transparent and attentive to the needs and aspirations of each person. In the coming months there will be opportunities to meet, exchange views and work side by side. Embracing you all in spirit in a great and warm collective embrace, I renew my thanks to you.”
