Employment of master's degree graduates at Politecnico di Bari at the top in Italy

According to Almalaurea, it has a rate approaching 93% one year after graduation. Rector Fratino: «This confirms that even a university in the South can be excellent»

The Polytechnic University of Bari confirms itself at the top in Italy for the rate of of master's degree graduates within one year of graduation. This emerges from the Report on the employment status of graduates 2026by Almalaurea, the largest consortium of universities in Italy, specialized in evaluating academic study paths and subsequent career opportunities.

The report was presented yesterday in Matera and includes a detailed profile for each university. With an employment rate of 92,9%, Poliba ranks second nationally, but with a minimal gap compared with the Polytechnic University of Turin, which has a rate of 93%. Poliba is in fact among the few universities that exceed 90% employment for second-level graduates (92.9% for master’s degree graduates and 84.4% for those in single-cycle degree programmes), with more than 12 points above the national average (80.8%). After Polito and Poliba come the University of Bolzano and Liuc Carlo Cattaneo (both at 92.6%), Milano Humanitas (91.3%), and the University of Verona (90.7%).

The National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (Anvur) recently published the report on research assessment in universities (Vqr), which showed that the Polytechnic University of Bari achieves, in many areas, better results than the other polytechnics. «Overall – Rector Fratino continues – the results show how a young university in the South can establish itself at the highest levels of quality and serve as a driver of growth for the territory, for the country and for the future of our talents».

IL METODO

The Almalaurea study is based on interviews with bachelor’s, two-year master’s, and single-cycle master’s graduates, conducted during 2025 one, three and five years after graduation, who found employment in Italy, in Europe and in the rest of the world. Overall, AlmaLaurea interviewed about 700,000 graduates from 81 universities, at first and second level. Graduates of the Polytechnic University of Bari number 1,921, of whom 1,177 are first-level, 669 are two-year master’s graduates and 75 are single-cycle graduates.

AGE, REGULARITY AND DEGREE GRADE: SUCCESS IN UNIVERSITY STUDIES

The average age at graduation is 24.6 years for all graduates, specifically 23.4 years for first-level graduates and 26.4 years for two-year master’s graduates. This figure is affected by delays in enrolling in university: not all high school graduates, in fact, enrol immediately after obtaining their upper secondary school diploma. 53.3% of graduates complete university on time: in particular, 58.4% among bachelor’s graduates and 49.0% among two-year master’s graduates. The average degree grade is 103.7 out of 110: 100.4 for first-level graduates and 108.9 for two-year master’s graduates.

SATISFACTION WITH THE UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

82.9% of graduates are satisfied with their relationship with teaching staff and 81.5% consider the study workload appropriate to the duration of the programme. 86.2% of graduates state that they are overall satisfied with the teaching activities carried out. More generally, 91.4% of graduates state that they are satisfied with the university experience as a whole.

RISULTATI A CINQUE ANNI DAL TITOLO

The employment rate of second-cycle graduates of 2020, interviewed five years after graduation, is 98.0% (98.6% for two-year master's graduates and 95.9% for single-cycle master's graduates). The unemployment rate is 0.6% (0.7% for two-year master's graduates and zero for single-cycle master's graduates). Employed graduates with permanent contracts account for 72.3%, while those with fixed-term contracts account for 5.0%. 16.1% are self-employed.

I LAUREATI TRIENNALI

As for three-year graduates, one year after graduation the employment rate for the Polytechnic University of Bari is 74.5%. 86.8% of first-cycle graduates, after obtaining their degree, choose to continue their university studies by enrolling in a master's degree. After one year, 86.5% are still enrolled at university, of whom 76.5% are at the same institution.

Among employed graduates, 26.0% continue the job they started before graduation, while 13.7% have changed jobs; 60.3% started working only after graduation. 31.5% of employed graduates can count on a permanent employee contract, while 17.8% on a fixed-term employee contract. 15.1% are self-employed (as freelancers, self-employed workers, entrepreneurs).
