Luigi Alberto Ciro DE FILIPPIS is an assistant professor of the scientific area "Manufacturing and Machining Systems" at the Faculty of Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari, where he teaches “Manufacturing”, “Industrial Quality Management” and some subjects in the area of non conventional machining technologies.
Actually he is responsible for his area in the Industrial Engineering course at the Polytechnic seat located in Taranto. Graduated in Mechanics Engineering at the Polytechnic of Bari, Italy in November 1998, he started his career with the Ph. D. Degree (November 1998 – October 2001) in “Advanced Production Systems” in the Department of Mechanical and Management Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari.
In 2002 he started to take part as researcher in many national and international research projects.
From 2001 he is member of AITEM (Italian Society of Manufacturing Engineering).
The scientific activity has developed itself mainly in the area of sheet joining by means of innovative technologies, such as Laser Welding and Friction Stir Welding. Some works have been addressed to the non conventional manufacturing processes, with particular emphasis to the water jet technologies and plasma.
He wrote many national and international articles His theorical and experimental scientific activities have concerned the fundamental branches of mechanical technology; in particular, numerical simulation and experimental investigation of laser welding, forming and heat treatment; on-line and off-line welding process control; rapid prototyping and reverse engineering.
